Your Wedding Cake - The Center of the Culinary Experience
-Courtesy of George Blum, Head Cake Designer: Bakery Delite
How many of us have been to wedding after wedding, and wondered what blend of sawdust, sandpaper, and glue were so artful mixed to create such a bland wedding cake? Time after time, one of the first items reduced in a wedding budget, is the wedding cake. Why?
First, if your wedding coordinator and baker are in anyway experienced, the cake table is prominently displayed in the hall for all guests to view when they arrive at your wedding reception. No other course during you meal receives so much attention, and further more neither the chicken or beef selection is steeped in such tradition as your wedding cake. You don’t have your main course, sorbet, coffee, salad, etc boxed and preserved to relive your special moment on your one year anniversary. Thus, we might say, in reality, your wedding cake is at the forefront of your entire culinary experience on your wedding day!!!
This month, we share with you the elements of a really good wedding cake. All ingredients can be changed and any style can be customized to your specifications, however the foundation for success remains the same. The following will make your guests go “WOW”, and you can ensure that when you and your beau reopen that cake box in one year, it will be as if it is your wedding day all over again.
Multiple tiers for a presentation zing
Choose a Butter Cream or Rolled Fondant Topping in the smooth European Style
A Strawberry-Amaretto Filling—Strawberry or other fruit preserves, with infused amaretto for a marvelously sinful and decadent almond flavor
When choosing your cake ornaments, be sure to use glass or ceramic. If you are using flowers as a presentation enhancer, plastic falls overwhelmingly short. This is definitely an issue years down the road, because your pictures will look shoddy when viewed by your children and when helping them plan their wedding day.
I hope this helps your sweet tooth, and remember the more intricate your cake designs, the sooner you should schedule an appointment with your baker!
