My Ideal Ring and Why - Can I Have Two?
A visit to any jewelry store is sometimes a very arduous task, mostly because I want to buy everything, and in the case of my engagement ring (to a lesser extent wedding bands as well) I only get one choice! Depending on the size of the stone, as different cuts with special settings have to maintain a certain caratage, I have two special rings in mind, and very shortly I must decide. Size is not always the differentiating factor, because certain stones just look better proportionate to the individual’s finger, the cut, and setting.
For a minute I digress, my ideal setting which affects any diamond that I choose is without a doubt Cartier’s classic 4 prong setting. I like this setting best because the diamond seems to contour itself better around the band (or at least that is the appearance). Many 6 prong settings and 4 prong settings as well sit too high on the finger. For me, I personally prefer the shallower look and feel of Cartier’s 4 prong setting.
For my band, I would much rather platinum over white gold. It’s simply a matter of convenience. Platinum is more durable than the white gold. Furthermore, most jeweler’s cover the white gold with Rhodium which adds strength. However, approximately every 2 years the band must be resurfaced.
The above mentioned characteristics of my dream ring are magnified by a brilliant cut classic 1 karat solitaire diamond. Simple, Elegant, Brilliant!
Alas, there is also my second choice. A brilliantly sculpted 1.5 karat cushion cut center stone with round brilliant diamonds partially surrounding the band on the stem. It is a gorgeous ring, and an heirloom that would remain for generations. Other additions to this ring could include two small surrounding sapphires as a substitute for the smaller surrounding brilliant diamonds on the stem.
